Happy Anniversary Regens Wagner

happy Anniversary Regens Wagner!

By Jackie Mallow

In July, I had the distinct privilege to be one of the honored guests of Dr. Hubert Soyer at the Regens Wagner’s 100th Anniversary Celebration in Absberg, Germany. Regens Wagner provides residential and vocational services for individuals diagnosed with Prader-Willi syndrome and other disabilities. As representatives of the International Community we were all so impressed by all the festivities and traditions that the celebration provided for the local community and those who live with them. It was easy to see why their families feel comforted by having their child live in such a beautiful setting with loving caregivers. Under the direction and inspiration of Dr. Soyer and his staff they are constantly exploring new possibilities. The farm for example is producing much of their own food supply for the homes and vocational center. Currently the farm is in a large expansion process to enable additional opportunities for the community and their residents. They also have an extreme out reach to the local communities they reside in and it is obvious they are not only respected but adored by many. We also had the pleasure of being a part of their family picnic day, tour the grounds and homes, explore the countryside, visit several castles, as well as attend some special historical landmarks, and so much more. I think I even became a German “Football” soccer fan as the streets and local marts were all "abuzz" with fans rooting their team to the finals. (Maybe next year!) Most importantly we spent time sharing, learning and looking forward to a brighter future for individuals diagnosed with PWS and their families. It is so easy to see why the man behind the plans is smiling, as he has a lot to be proud of. From us to our friends overseas Happy Anniversary!!
